Insect Prison REMAKE update v1.10


The second version on the extension roadmap is now ready. It comes in a turbulent time as when we were finishing the version just before the weekend, a close relative was hospitalized with a serious problem. Fortunately he is stable now and will return home next week. Meanwhile Grey took over the last work so we could still get a version ready this weekend.

Back to the update: The main focus of the version was the Combat Rework 2, that was worked on based on a poll asking what people would like to see to improve the combat system.

Based on this, a lot of changes were made to it so bear with us and please, play the new combat tutorial!!! I’m sure it will help a lot with the information on the new rework :).

Also, every enemy party has an escape scene now and you can collect them, and 2 of those scenes had awful “photoshop” edits by me to make them more unique, which was a lot of work because I’m bad at GIMP…

Improved Look

Redrawn all UI elements to improve their resolution and colors, this also includes the title screen background and also the game cover. I think it looks more interesting now, but let me know what you think :).

Also checkout the new Status Screen, new work there commissioned to Y.H.K. This was our first investment of the donations as a try out, we will try to work with the same artist for further CGs, so the artstyle will change a bit on the future, but for now we still have some CGs from Atela left.

More Escape Scenes

This are very small, but were the most requested change in the combat system, so here we are :D. All escape scenes are also unlockable on the recall screen, so they can all be collected and skipped later.

  • Parasite Beast (Failed Escape) - Same as before, but just slightly shorter
  • Wharf Roach (Failed Escape) - Only reuses CGs
  • Jellyfish (Failed Escape) - Only reuses CGs
  • Egg Fly (Failed Escape) - Uses unused CGs and some “photoshop” edits
  • Giant Slug (Failed Escape) - Reuses CGs with some heavy “photoshop” edits

Combat Rework - Part II

The last “grand” combat system rework, from here on out, only small improvements or fixes will be added. Touching this system is always a massive workload…

MANY things were changed, so I highly suggest everyone migrating to this version to start a new game to play the new tutorial, only to understand the new combat, as it would be easier than reading this changelog in full.

The most important is that now during battles, you pick an action per enemy per turn, and not just 1 action per turn. This changes the battle dynamics a lot, so I advise again to play the tutorial for the details.

New counter/action distribution:

  • Melee Attacks (previously Fast Attacks) counter Grab/Push
  • Grab/Push (previously Parry) counter Guard
  • Guard counter Melee Attacks

As you can see, main actions were reduced from 4 to 3, Heavy Attack is now Heavy Strike, a special move along side Precise Strike. The special moves work similar to the spells when using the Magic Book, but without any item. The idea was provided by Lightning_Dragon.

Assorted Stuff

Mostly fixes from version 1.05 (1.5) and an important feature suggested on the comments. You can now import/export save files to another directory. This was tested on all platforms except for MacOS, but do let me know if you encounter issues.

Please note that this import/export feature requires permission on Android for accessing the storage. If you want to import/export you can temporarily give the permission, and then remove it after importing or exporting, because the game does not need the permission to do anything else.

  • (ADD) Escape scenes to the Recall menu
  • (ADD) Egg Fly, Giant Slug, Jellyfish and Wharf Roach escape scenes
  • (REM) Heavy Attack and Parry combat actions
  • (REM) Auto battle (needs to be redesigned)
